Aspiring actress Preeti Jain sentenced for 3 years imprisonment for conspiring the murder of Madhur Bhandakar

In 2004, model Preeti Jain filed a police complaint in Versova against Director Madhur Bhandarkar, accusing him of raping her 16 times.  The Times of India reported an old statement of the model that Bhandarkar had asked her for sexual favors in return for a lead role in one of his films. Even after refusing his offer, she claimed that he had raped her. She dropped the charge in 2012 and the rape case against Bhandarkar was canceled.

Preeti Jain has now been convicted and thereby sentenced to a 3-year imprisonment by the Mumbai sessions court for plotting to kill Madhur Bhandarkar. Two more people have been charged along with Jain.In 2005, the aspiring actress allegedly hired an underworld gangster Arun Gawli for Rs. 75000 to kill the filmmaker. But after a failed attempt, she asked for a refund and Gawli’s lawyer informed the police about the conspiracy.

The court has suspended the sentence for 4 weeks allowing her to appeal to the High Court. Bail has also been granted, set at Rs 15000.
