An engineer got forcefully married at gunpoint in Pandharak of Patna district of Bihar. In Bihar, such forced marriagesare known as ‘pakraua’ marriages. The news of such weddings had not come in light in the recent days but the marriage of Vinod Kumar, a resident of Khusrupur in Patna district, is such a case. Vinod Kumar is working as Jr. Manager at Bokaro Steel Plant. On December 2, he came to Patna from Ranchi.
Engineer Vinod, who came to enjoy his friend’s wedding, reached Patna on December 3rd. They had to go to the wedding ceremony in Nalanda’s Islampur village. His family friend Surendra Yadav invited him to fix a meeting with a political leader. Surendra Yadav of Gopkita village of Pandharak thana was his family friend. Earlier both the families were in touch with each other.
Surendra Yadav called Vinod and said that he has good terms with many MPs and legislators and he could possibly help him get his work done. Based on the conversation on the mobile, Vinod Yadav and his friend Guddu reached Mokama station. Surendra fooled Vinod and spent the whole day in the name of meeting the leader, and after that, he went to Gopkita village of Pandharak thana and started the plan of forced marriage.
Vinod Yadav was kept in betrayal after being abducted from Mokama, being brought to Pandarak and then being forced to get married. Vinod was crying and the girl’s family forcibly did the marriage rituals. The groom kept crying but nobody felt sorry for him. Vinod is alleged to have been threatened by a weapon to marry the girl. All the preparations had already been done in the marriage pavilion, and Vinod couldn’t even try to escape as everyone bound him at the pavilion.
The family of the girl’s side have completely denied the forced marriage. They claim that that the boy had come to Mokama at his own will and he had married the girl on his own wish. The girl’s family have alleged that after getting married, the groom’s side started demanding property land in Patna. Surendra Yadav said that the issue of marriage by kidnapping and using weapons is completely wrong.
Pandarak Police Station Diwakar Vishwakarma said that the moment when he got the information about this forced marriage, he had immediately freed the boy by raiding the place. The family members of the boy were told to file an FIR in the Mokama police station because they had kidnapped the boy from Mokama railway station itself, and the boy’s uncle took him away with him.
