Kimbho – WhatsApp’s desi competitor.

Baba Ramdev launched a new messaging application called “Kimbho”, to compete with the well-established instant messaging application WhatsApp, owned by Mark Zuckerberg. Swami Ramdev, known for his influence through Yoga, hasn’t sat still since the time he came to limelight. After capturing India through Yoga, he has tried his hands at Ayurveda, consumer goods, politics, telecom sector, and the latest being the social media application. The announcement of the launch of this application was done on Wednesday, 30 th May, 2018. Patanjali’s spokesperson said, “Now Bharat will speak. After launching sim cards, baba Ramdev has launched a new messaging application called Kimbho. Now WhatsApp will be given competition. Our own #SwadeshiMessagingPlatform. Download it directly from
Google Play store.”

The tagline for this app is “Ab Bharat Bolega”. The motive behind this app is for India to have its own messaging application and for it not to be reliant on any foreign messaging app. The spokesperson also tweeted that “Kimbho” is a Sanskrit word that is used to ask a person how he or she is doing.

The Spokesperson’s tweet.

This app, which was made available on 30 th May, 2018, on Google Play store, describes itself as “Private and Group chat with Free Phone and Video Calling”. The application will provide communication that can be done through texts, audios, videos, GIFs, doodles, stickers, etc. The app also has the feature of blocking unwanted people or conversations, all while the chats being encrypted by AES for security. The users will also be given freedom of using personalized wallpapers in the background. A couple of days ago, we had reported about Baba Ramdev embarking upon the telecom sector by introducing Swadeshi Samriddhi SIM cards in alliance with BSNL. These SIM cards, though haven’t had a complete roll-out yet, will offer interesting scheme plans along with other benefits. The plan offered by this merger is by far BSNL’s best plan, which offers unlimited national calling, 2GB data and 100 SMS at a mere recharge of ₹144.

The way Ramdev Baba is progressing and invading in differential sectors, people are left wondering what his next move would be. Will there exist any such element that would be ‘videshi’ in our ‘swadesh’? While we are here to update you with all his ‘launches’, you stick around.
